Belonging is a virtual exhibition by Visionary Art Collective centered on the power of art to cultivate connection and community. Transcending the limits of culture and language, visual art is a medium that connects us through our shared human experience–providing an opportunity to better understand ourselves and the world around us.
Consisting of 49 artists and curated by Victoria J. Fry.
I’m honored to participate in 48 PILLARS 2024 curated by Arc Partner, Michael Yochum.
CLOSING RECEPTION AND
ARTIST TALK:
Saturday, April 6th, 12-3PM
Featured Artists:
Kathryn Arnold, Richard Bolingbroke, Stacey Carter, Jennifer Ewing, Carolyn Ferris, Annie Galvin, Howard Hersh, Uma Rani Iyli, Ivy Jacobsen, Julia LaChica, Katja Leibenath, Lisa Levine, Fernanda Martinez, Nance Miller, Leila Noorani, Yari Ostovany, Namita Paul, Eric Rewitzer, Wendy Robushi, Sawyer Rose, Michael Shemchuk, Stephanie Steiner, Paula Valenzuela, and Fumiyo Yoshikawa
48 Pillars was inspired by a chance encounter at Flax with a close-out sale of deep vertical panels, 48” x 12” x 1 5/8”. Twenty-four local Bay Area artists each produce two companion pieces or diptychs on these identically sized panels. The panels exactly ring the gallery - 48 works total. It is essentially a “structural constraint” show. The artists are unconstrained in subject matter, except to the extent that works need to be a series, but they are constrained in format.

Produced by Startup Curatorial and curated by Startup Director Ray Beldner, Art and Terroir is the inaugural art event at Maxville Winery, where they are also unveiling their new kitchen to celebrate the pairing of art, food, and wine.
Art and Terroir serves as a tribute to the unique bond between art and the region from which it springs. As we explore the concept of "terroir," traditionally associated with the characteristics imparted to wine by its environment, we invite the public to immerse themselves in the beauty and richness of these locally-rooted artistic expressions. Just as the vineyard landscape shapes the flavors of the wine, the Bay Area serves as a wellspring of inspiration for these exceptional artists, influencing their creativity and contributing to the depth of their work.
Local Artists on display include:
Robin Denevan, Mary Mocas, Ray Beldner, Paula Valenzuela, Michelle Mansour, Miriam Hithcock, Emily Maddigan, Linda Schmidt, Monica Denevan & Silvia Poloto.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Valenzuela and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have made art since I can remember. Growing up I had classes with very good Chilean artists, but always kept my art making as a private passion that I shared with a small community. I studied Clinical Psychology and Public Health and after working for many years as a psychotherapist with women and families in Chile, I moved from
to the Bay Area in 2013.
Coming to the US was an opportunity to go back to my creative practice and remember how much I loved making art. I started learning from other artists and realized that by creating art I was fulfilling the need to express what I couldn’t say in words and also was a way of healing and self-discovery. I realized that I’ve always wanted to become an artist but I was afraid at the time or haven’t given it the necessary space in my life. So, there was no way back and I needed to pursue this dream and put all my efforts to make it happen.
